The answer is one bite at a time. There is no quick fix to the crisis we are facing, but there is definitely a long-term solution. It is not a hopeless situation, as some fools say. There is clear evidence everything is subject to change.

Over six million Jews were enslaved and killed in Hitler’s time. Today, the Jews are free and one of the most prosperous people. In the late 1980s and early 1990s, while New York City experienced high crime rates—with 1,821 homicides recorded in 1980, homicide rates have significantly declined in the decades since.

Years ago, in America, Black people could not sit in the front of the bus, were bitten by dogs, and were not allowed to go to college. Things have changed. Even some doubters, mockers, and fools can become wise if they put their minds to it. But we are of the wise group. We live by vision and not by sight. With our eyes, we can only see what is happening now today.

We have a vision of a Trinidad and Tobago where people are no longer living in fear. We see yearly murder rates decrease significantly. We see crime cut down dramatically. We see our citizens, our sons and daughters, living and not dying violently. We see light in Trinidad and Tobago.

Take note of this: a journey of a thousand miles begins with one step. The time has come to rise up and take that step forward. Those of you who are wise, you visionaries, you champions among the people, demonstrate your courage, show your strength, release your power, fight with me, and join me in partnership.
